Stem cell treatment for patients with autoimmune disease by systemic infusion of culture-expanded autologous adipose tissue derived mesenchymal stem cells.
Chan Ra et al. (2011)
Keywords: Autologous adipose mesenchymal stem cells, autoimmune diseases, systemic stem cell infusion
This study looks at human adipose derived mesenchymal stem cells (hAdMSC’s) used for autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, polymyositis and autoimmune ear disease). The results showed therapeutic benefits for all patients, including long term benefits. Vitally, no adverse effects were shown. The study suggests it is clinically safe for multiple stem cell treatments within a month. Furthermore, no effect of donor-age dependent efficacy was shown, meaning a larger scope of patients may be suitable for the treatment.
